Liseur

Ebook reader: EPUB on your phone, in sync with your own book server
New in version 0.8.0
liseur-sync is now a full catalog server: browse, download, delete and sync books, with personal series management. Finishing a book shows a new endpaper screen with reading duration and quick series continuation. Added per-book scroll reading mode, an option to keep the screen awake, reading appearance settings that can follow the app theme, and an About screen with a sponsor link.
Liseur is an open-source ebook reader for Android. It opens EPUB books stored on your phone, and it is also a client for calibre-web, Komga and liseur-sync, so the books on your own server share a shelf with the ones on the device — and the page you stopped on follows you from one to the other.

It works offline, has no ads and no account of its own, and asks for nothing beyond the server you point it at.

Reading EPUB books

* Paginated EPUB rendering through the Readium toolkit, full screen by default
* Tap right to go forward, left to go back, the middle for the controls; volume keys work too
* A whole page always fits the screen, with no stray scrolling to catch the last line
* Four reading themes — Light, Sepia, Dark and a black night mode for OLED screens — independent of the app's own theme
* Four bundled open fonts or the publisher's own, plus size, line spacing, margins and brightness
* Time left in the chapter, time left in the book, page or percentage, and a scrubber with chapter ticks

Highlights, notes and dictionary

* Highlights in four colours, notes, and bookmarks with a corner ribbon
* A notebook of everything you marked in a book, exportable as Markdown
* Search the whole book, with snippets and jump-to highlighting
* Definitions for any selected word, or a hand-off to an offline dictionary app. Online lookups are off until you turn them on, and you choose which Wiktionary edition or mirror answers them

Your ebook library

* Index folders of EPUBs on the device or an SD card, covers and all
* Books you are using sort to the front; finished ones get a tick
* Pull to refresh picks up whatever changed behind the app's back

Your own book server: calibre-web, Komga, liseur-sync

* calibre-web: one screen sets it up with URL, username and password, and Liseur works out the catalog, download rights and sync token
* Komga: paste the server address and an API key
* liseur-sync: sign in or paste a device token; it also syncs books that never came from a server
* Your server's books merge into the same library with a cloud badge; tap one to download and open it
* Reading positions sync both ways — exactly where you left off, on Komga and liseur-sync
* Remove the copy on the device, or delete the book from the server

Free software

No trackers, no analytics, no proprietary dependencies. The only network traffic is to the book server you configured and, if you switch online definitions on, to the dictionary site you chose.

Versions

Although APK downloads are available below to give you the choice, you should be aware that by installing that way you will not receive update notifications and it's a less secure way to download. We recommend that you install the F-Droid client and use that.

  • Version 0.8.0 (13) suggested Added on Aug 21, 2026

    arm64-v8a armeabi-v7a x86 x86_64

This version requires Android 8.0 or newer.

It is built and signed by F-Droid, and guaranteed to correspond to this source tarball.

    Permissions
    • view network connections
Allows the app to view information about network connections such as which networks exist and are connected.
    • run foreground service
Allows the app to make use of foreground services.
    • have full network access
Allows the app to create network sockets and use custom network protocols. The browser and other applications provide means to send data to the internet, so this permission is not required to send data to the internet.
    • run at startup
Allows the app to have itself started as soon as the system has finished booting. This can make it take longer to start the phone and allow the app to slow down the overall phone by always running.
    • prevent phone from sleeping
Allows the app to prevent the phone from going to sleep.

  • New in version 0.7.0
Books in a series are now grouped across the whole library, with manual ordering and a way to refile a book into another series. The library filter chips became a multi-select menu in the overflow, and 'put away' is now called 'archived'. An empty library says where the books went when everything has been read.

  • New in version 0.6.0
Reading positions now sync through a liseur-sync server, which keeps your place, your finished sessions and your reading figures in step across devices. The reader takes the furthest page rather than asking, and says when a position arrived from elsewhere. Statistics fold in what the server knows. Settings were reorganised, remote libraries first. Word definitions can now open in an external dictionary app instead of the built-in card.
